Medicare Plan N can assist a senior citizen with any unexpected expenses of conventional Medicare. These policies are also called Medigap policies. A senior citizen with Medicare, which includes most Parts A and B, can also opt to purchase Medicare Plan N for coverage. Medicare Plan N covers emergency care, hospitalization, doctor and surgeon visits, durable medical equipment, prescription drugs, and other services not covered by Medicare Parts A and B. Part D is also offered to Medicare recipients at a lesser cost.

Medicare Plan N usually contains the following six Medicare benefits: Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, Medicare Part C, Medicare Part D, and Medicare Supplement Insurance. Medicare Plan N contains the following policy features: guaranteed determinate premium, open enrollment, flexible spending account, minimal benefit, outside the system expenses, and negative income risk.

Medicare Plan N has different policy features and benefits in different years, as decided by the Medicare Board. All of these features and benefits could be subject to change, as per Congress’s amendments and regulations.

Medicare Plan N is the simplest of all medicare insurance plans. All that you need to pay out-of-pocket costs is a Medicare Part A enrollment fee and the Medicare Part B deductible. You would then have to pay the remainder of your expenses out-of-pocket. The Medicare Supplement Insurance premiums are deducted from the amount that you pay out-of-pocket. Some plans also cover the Medicare Part D deductible.

Medicare Plan N is ideal for those seniors who are not eligible for Medicare Parts A or B. They are considered “core” Medicare beneficiaries, regardless of whether they received Medicare Parts A or B before. Medicare Plan N does not cover additional Medicare benefits such as vision care, dental coverage, accident coverage, and certain medications.

Medicare Plan N is the lowest cost of all the Medicare options. Although you do get some “freebies”, like no Medicare Supplement Insurance premiums paid, if you did receive Medicare Parts A or B; you are not eligible for this plan.

Medicare Supplement Plans offer many coverage options to choose from. Each month you are allowed to choose what Medicare Supplement insurance plans you want and at what cost. Medicare Supplement plans offer savings when you buy them alongside Medicare Parts A and B. If you purchase Medicare Supplement plans, you would pay the same Medicare Part A premium every month, no matter which plans you choose, but you do not have to pay the additional Medicare Part B deductible.

Medicare Plan N policies are usually selected based on the type of income that you and your spouse earn. It is based on your modified gross income or MPI. If you do not meet the resource limit for Medicare Parts A or B, then you are not eligible for the Medicare Supplement plan n policy in that category.

Medicare Plan N is the most costly of all the plans; however, it offers the highest level of Medicare coverage in the plan. Medicare Plan N policies require that you have a high-deductible health plan because the Medicare Part B deductible does not cover the entire cost of your treatment.
